The Buddha is seated on a lotus in the position of bestowing blessings or giving charity. He has a rock crystal Ushnisha, the protuberance on top of the head that symbolizes a crown. The Buddha is embellished with the eight signs of good fortune in Lapis Lazuli, Coral and Turquoise. The eight signs are: Chattra (parasol) protection against evil, Dhvaja (banner) victory of Buddha's teaching, Sankha (conch) absence of all evil, Shrivasta (eternal knot) long life and everlasting love, Dharmachakra (wheel of the law) salvation through Buddha's teaching, Kalasha (vase) contains water of immorality, Matsyayugma (fish) salvation from suffering and fertility, and Padma (lotus) purity. Appraisers have noted that this Buddha has the much sought after quality of peacefulness, thought to be the most important asset of any image of the Buddha.
