The Spaniards rode into the Southwest searching for 'El Dorado'...seven cities of gold. They brought with them the legendary Venetian 'Millefiori' glass trade beads to use for barter. The Native Americans were intrigued by the brilliant color and design. The trading post system evolved from these early encounters. The centerpiece of this necklace is a very rare 'elbow' trade bead, circa 1850, in mint condition. It's accented with Navajo-made 10mm Sterling Silver beads and strung with 8mm yellow Moukite, finishing with a Sterling Silver clasp.
