From our Black Elk's American Medicine Collection
Using beads from our private collection of antique trade beads, we came up with this design that tells a story of old trading post days when beads were better than money for closing the deal. These beads had high value and much lore with early Native Americans. The centerpiece 'Star Chevron' was made in Venice, circa 1850, for trade with indigenous peoples. It appears from Tibet to Peru, all over Africa, Canada, and the United States. The 2mm 'White Heart' red beads, circa 1850, were called that by Native Americans because of their white core. The colors, red, white, and blue, honor our inclusive American heritage. Accents include two Navajo (Dine) 5mm Sterling Silver beads and two 4mm Lapis Lazuli beads. Kit finished to 17" and includes Sterling Silver clasp, crimps and end beads, instructions, and stringing material.
Price is for one kit.
We will include two monographs on trade beads and White Hearts with any order for these kits.
